Benefits of Double Glazed Windows
What is double glazing?
In years gone by most people had single glazed windows, which contained one sheet of glass. In time these traditional, wooden windows will need replacing; when the time comes to do this we now tend to replace them with double-glazing instead.
Double glazed windows contain sealed units which are made from two panes of glass. These have a gap in between them that provides good insulation against the cold in winter and helps to keep the heat inside the house when you need it most.
How does double glazing work?
Double glazing works by creating an insulating layer between the outside and inside of your home. Our double-glazed windows are filled with Argon glass which is extremely good at reducing the transfer of heat.

Double Glazed Windows
No one likes coming home to a cold house. Whether it’s a home’s lack of insulation or old age that’s letting the cold air in, double glazing is the most effective way of protecting a house during the winter months.
There are many benefits of installing double glazed windowsin your home, from increasing your security to the low maintenance, we love double glazing! That said, here are our top five double glazing benefits…
- Highly energy efficient
-
Reduction on sound pollution
- Advanced security
- Minimal maintenance
Enhance your Homes Safety and Security
If your doors and windows are not secure, neither is your property. Two-thirds of burglars enter through a door, did you know that windows are a popular point of entry for burglars?
Most windows open your view to the world, but they can also make your home an easy target for intruders. Most home burglaries occur through forcible entry, and in the warmer weather months, windows are the most popular means for entrance.
While many intruders look for open windows, older windows with poor locks and windows that are blocked by bushes and shrubs also offer a great opportunity for those who hope to gain entry to your home. Single glazed windows, especially on the ground floor and other accessible areas, are vulnerable to attack by burglars. Old double-glazed windows may also be insecure if they don’t meet modern security standards.
Reduce Noise Pollution
Double glazed windows help to insulate against the nuisance caused by outside noise. Laminated acoustic double-glazing windows can reduce noise levels by up to 35 decibels. Noise pollution is a real problem for a crowded areas, caused by air traffic, busy roads, etc. However, with double glazed window and acoustic glass you can protect your home from this disturbance and reduce noise pollution.
Sound travels through the air (and solids and liquids) like the ripples seen on the surface of a pond when you throw a stone into it. Just like these ripples, the waves decrease in intensity as they move away from the source. Sound intensity is measured in decibels (dB). A low dB value indicates a soft sound and a high dB value a loud sound.
One of the many potential benefits of replacing windows or installing secondary glazing in your home is that in doing so you can often also improve your property’s noise insulation. The correct installation of good quality, well-made windows or secondary glazing systems can result in a noticeable reduction in noise levels.

Energy Efficiency
Energy efficient windows are an important consideration for both new and existing homes. Heat gain and heat loss through windows are responsible for 25%–30% of residential heating and cooling energy use.
If your existing windows are in good condition, taking steps to reduce the energy loss through windows can make your home more comfortable and save you money on energy bills.
Energy efficient glazing helps reduce your carbon footprint and your energy bills, whether with double or triple glazing, secondary glazing, or just heavier curtains.
Other Benefits of Double-Glazed Windows
Other benefits of Double-Glazed Windows include:
- Improved thermal insulation: Energy efficient glazing can help to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The air or gas gap between the panes of glass in a sealed unit provides an extra layer of insulation. This increased thermal resistance reduces the amount of heat that can escape the home during the colder months. In summer the reverse occurs, and the windows help keep the heat outside, keeping the home cooler.
- Reduced condensation: Energy efficient windows and doors help reduce the risk of condensation which occurs when a cold surface and moist air meet. The resulting moisture can potentially damage the window frame and if it is particularly bad, may even affect other areas of the room.
